I am struck today however, by the stark contrast between two tax cuts being voted on in the Iowa House and Iowa Senate. In the House they are voting on the biggest tax giveaway to out-of-state corporations in the history of the state of Iowa.

Here in the Senate we are about to cut taxes for 260,000 working Iowans families. The families that are home to about 37% of all our kids. These two tax cuts are in no way related. Each should be and must stand on its own. This is the third time colleagues we’re going to pass; I think we are going to pass in a minute this tax cut. I hope the third time’s the charm.

I hope that the House also will quickly pass the Working Family Tax Cut, also for the third time. And then let’s send in down to Governor Branstad, with plenty of time to override his veto if he choose again to veto a tax cut for 500,000 working Iowans. Mr. President, with that I simply move the bill and ask for your support.
