Audio: Grassley’s grandson and health reform won’t pull plug on grandma

U.S. SENATOR CHUCK GRASSLEY HAS SAID THAT HEALTH REFORM COULD THREATEN THE LIVES OF OLDER IOWANS. IOWA STATE SENATOR JOE BOLKCOM SAYS GRASSLEY IS NOT TELLING THE STRAIGHT STORY AND CITES IOWA LEGISLATION PASSED IN 2008 TO MAKE HIS POINT.

TRANSCRIPT:

“I just don’t understand. How can Senator Chuck Grassley claim that health reform will “pull the plug on grandma” when his own grandson, Iowa Representative Pat Grassley, helped pass the same reforms here in Iowa?”

“It is smart to have a living will. That way you can manage your end-of-life care and make sure your wishes and your dignity are respected.

“That’s why the same sort of reforms Senator Grassley pretends could kill grandma passed the Iowa House by a vote of 93 to 3. Iowa State Representative Pat Grassley of New Hartford voted yes.

“If Senator Grassley doesn’t want health insurance reform, he should just come out and say so. In any case, he owes it to Iowans to be honest about reforms that will lower costs, create more choices, and protect families from insurance company abuses.”
