HF 2455 – Small city audit requirements and fund

HF 2455 was brought to the Legislature by the State Auditor. Currently, cities with populations less than 2,000 get audited every eight years. Cities with populations less than 700 residents have no audit requirement. This bill creates a state fund that these small cities will pay into to provide a random-sampling audit on a yearly basis. The State Auditor will establish through rule a sliding fee scale based on population and overall budget that cities will pay on a yearly basis. This fee will be deposited into a state fund to pay for an audit firm chosen through an RFP (request for proposals) process to conduct a random sampling of audits on small cities on a yearly basis.
