Our family and household grew this year with the arrival of William Fredin, son of Captain Paul and Christen Fredin. Christen, two year-old Katen and six-month-old William are living with us for a few months while Paul is deployed in Afghanistan. It's nice to have all 10 of our grandkids nearby this Christmas. They range up to 17-year-old Lydia who will graduate this spring. Steve and Lori and family live in Cedar Falls and Kim and Scott and family live in Slater.Our family is well and happy, and we wish you and your family a joyous Christmas and a blessed New Year. -Daryl

In early December, our family enjoyed our annual Birthday, Thanksgiving and Christmas celebration. Happy Thankmas, as we call it, was a wonderful time! We have much to be thankful for this season, not the least of which is eight healthy grandkids. -Rich

When I was about 10 years old, I remember coming out of church after the Christmas Eve service and seeing the snow falling. We didn’t think we’d have a white Christmas that year, but I was so excited that it came just in the nick of time. We are blessed again this year with a white Christmas and with the Christmas spirit that is alive and well in our communities. We see churches and community groups helping many families who are struggling.

I would like to share holiday greetings and the wish for much happiness while spending time with your family and friends. I’d also like to honor those of other faiths, with appreciation for the freedom we all share in this country to practice our own religion.
