Interns join Senate Majority Leader for Cedar Rapids visit
On April 12, interns working with the Senate Democrats accompanied Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal for a day-trip from the Statehouse to Cedar Rapids. Senator Gronstal joined Senator Bob Dvorsky of Coralville and Senator Rob Hogg of Cedar Rapids for a press conference outside of the Cedar Rapids Veterans Memorial Building followed by a tour of the interior.
This year, the Legislature approved funds for the protection and restoration of Veterans Memorial Coliseum, the protection and reuse of the old federal courthouse, the protection and improvement of Linn County’s public service building, and the establishment of a new small business center to assist with economic recovery in Cedar Rapids.
“I enjoyed the trip,” said Tina Weinert, an intern. “We had an opportunity to tour the Veterans Memorial Building and see the extensive the flood damage from 2008 and the work that is being done to restore the building.”
Fall internships with the Senate Democrats are still available. College and high school students interested in interning with the Senate Democratic Research Staff should visit http://www.senate.iowa.gov/democrats/internships/.
