SJR 2001 – Nullification of administrative rule requiring non-toxic shot while hunting mourning doves
COMMITTEE ACTION:
SJR 2001 nullifies an administrative rule passed by the Natural Resource Commission (NRC) on July 14, 2011, that would have prohibited the use of lead shot while hunting mourning doves by requiring the use and possession of approved non-toxic shot only. This requirement was a portion of the administrative rule that established the hunting season for mourning doves. On August 16, 2011, the Legislature’s Administrative Rules Review Committee (ARRC) voted to place a “session delay” on the portion of the administrative rule that required the use of non-toxic shot, and moved to send a nullification resolution to the House and Senate for consideration. The “session delay” action by the ARRC allowed the mourning dove hunting season to take place and gave the Legislature the opportunity to decide what action to take on the non-toxic shot rule.
