Recycle when you’re on the road

You’ll now be able to recycle your cans and bottles when you stop at many central Iowa interstate rest areas. This is a great way to help prevent litter and keep Iowa beautiful for all visitors to enjoy, even when you’re on the road.

It’s part of the Iowa Department of Transportation’s “” pilot project. Participating rest areas are located near Ankeny, Mitchellville, Story City and Waukee.  More than 2.8 million people stop at these eight rest areas each year.

The recycling pilot project will help the Iowa DOT determine the best way to expand recycling to 32 additional Iowa interstate rest areas that serve 13.2 million people annually.
