On April 12 the Senate passed the Health and Human Services budget which allows seniors to stay in their home and protects at-risk kids in Iowa.
The Senate’s work toward a compromise budget includes protections for the most vulnerable Iowans, including abused and neglected children as well as senior citizens living in residential nursing facilities.

There will be new help for older Iowans and those with disabilities to continue living independently thanks to legislation approved by the Iowa Senate. Senate File 527 funds a Rent Subsidy Program run by the Iowa Finance Authority. The program will benefit people with disabilities and older Iowans who qualify for Medicaid and would otherwise be placed in institutions.
