Liz Mathis of Robins was elected to the Iowa Senate in a special
election in 2011. She represents the people of Senate District
18, which includes Marion, a small portion of Cedar Rapids and
much of northern and western Linn County. Senator Mathis serves on the Ways &
Means, Economic Growth, Commerce and Human Resources committees.
She is also a member of the Economic Development Appropriations
Subcommittee. Liz is the daughter of a World War II
veteran and a schoolteacher. She grew up on her family’s farm
outside of Clinton. Paying her way through the University of
Iowa with money she earned detasseling corn, Liz knows the value
of hard work, commitment to family and reaching for opportunity
through a good education. After spending over 25 years as a
journalist, Liz has worked the last several years for a child
advocacy and juvenile justice agency that helps disadvantaged
kids get the skills they need to grow into healthy, successful
adults. Liz and her husband Mark have two
children of their own and live in Robins. |
