Mike Gronstal has served in the Iowa Senate since 1985 and was a member of the Iowa House from 1983-1985. He represents Council Bluffs and Carter Lake on the western border of Iowa.
Mike is a third generation Council Bluffs resident, where he lives with his wife, Connie. They have two grown daughters, Kate and Sara.
Mike is a graduate of Council Bluffs’ St. Albert High School and Antioch College in Ohio. He also attended Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois.
Mike is the Senate Majority Leader and serves as chair of the Rules & Administration Committee. He believes that governing is a bi-partisan effort to ensure that Iowa is a great place to live, work and raise a family.
During his years of service, Senator Gronstal has focused on better jobs, education and health care for all Iowans. His legislative agenda in the Senate includes addressing Iowa’s shortage of skilled workers through funding greater opportunities for job training in Iowa’s community colleges, school districts and adult education programs.
