Solar energy investment creates jobs, grows economy

Tim Dwight, one Iowa’s greatest athletes, is now one of our state’s greatest advocates for solar energy. Tim points out that the cost per watt of solar energy has fallen from $4 in 2008 to as little of 70 cents per watt now.

This week, I joined 13 of my colleagues in filing a bill to increase our investment in one of the most successful state credits on the books: Iowa’s solar energy tax credit. Between 2012 and 2016, the credit has led to more than 2,500 solar energy projects. An investment of about $16 million in state funds has generated more than $130 million in private investment, while creating more than 1,000 jobs throughout Iowa. This bill will create hundreds of new jobs and millions in additional investment.
